Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has begun patching up the State’s international airport after its sorry condition was highlighted by Daily Express columnist Datuk John Lo recently.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin paid a working visit to MAHB Senior General Manager Kamaruzzaman Razali at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) on Thursday.
Jafry said MAHB acknowledged the problems and have taken immediate action to rectify the issues and was briefed on the ongoing improvement and refurbishment plans.
“Rectifications carried out include patching potholes at KKIA’s carpark, reinforcing traffic monitoring at Level 1 and Level 3, tightening the service-level agreement (SLA) on cleaning services, as well as improving terminal lighting and trolley management,” Kamaruzzaman told Jafry.
In 2022, MAHB allocated RM73 million for the operational expenditures of KKIA.
It covered facilities management, cleaning, maintenance, and repair services, including staff and utility costs.
“The Ministry, together with Malaysia Airports, are committed to ensure that KKIA meets global standards and deliver the highest service levels to airport guests and most importantly for tourists.
