Man charged with drug trafficking
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old unemployed man was tentatively charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday with drug trafficking.

Rosli Moktar was accused of trafficking 72.36gm of syabu at 12.30pm on July 9 on the first floor of Block 3T, Universiti Utama Condominium, Jalan Kayu Madang, Manggatal.

However, no plea was taken from Rosli, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, after the charge was read out to him.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

In another case, a 33-year-old man was jailed one day and fined RM10,000 or two months jail for drink driving.

Kevin Phang pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 12.10am on Feb 6, this year at Jalan Kota Kinabalu – Penampang, in front of the SMK Bahang, Penampang.

The charge under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act (Amended 2020), provides for a jail term of up to two years and fine between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and loss of qualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.

Meanwhile, two people were fined gambling activities.

Clethra Cyrinus, 22, was fined RM3,300 or three months jail for having gambling paraphernalia.

She admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having two 4D slips illegally at 3.30pm on March 20, 2019 at Taman Kepayan.

She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction Requesting for a lower fine, Clethra confessed that it was her third offence under the same Section.

The court ordered the seized RM41 to be forfeited by the government.

Md Yakob Din was fined RM800 or one month jail after he admitted before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to online gambling using a handphone at 1pm on Feb 20, this year at Putera Jaya area, Jalan Tuaran – Kota Kinabalu, Manggatal.

Yakob was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
