Keningau vocational student sole Malaysian finalist for prestigious global award

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old female construction technology student from Keningau Vocational College has remarkably become the sole Malaysian finalist for the prestigious Chegg.org Global Student Prize 2022 award.

Alesyah Asa emerged in the Top 50 out of 7,000 nominations from 150 countries. She will vie for a spot in the Top 10 and stand a chance to be rewarded with a cash prize of RM445,000.

She was selected to be in the Top 50 for her contributions in innovation, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and cultural exchange programmes, which have catalysed the active participation of her schoolmates in innovation contests, conferences and hackathons.

According to the Global Student Prize 2022 website, Alesyah has risen above various stigmas, stereotypes, and economic hurdles to promote innovation, STEM education and inclusivity, especially as a woman living in a rural area of Sabah.
