PETALING JAYA: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has urged police to leave an environmental activist alone after she was summoned for questioning for allegedly insulting the regent in a now-deleted Twitter post.

Taking to Instagram, Tengku Hassanal shared an article by The Vibes regarding the issue, saying that he had just found out about it.

“I have asked the police to leave her alone, please don’t create drama,” he said.

The Vibes had reported that on July 18, the head of the Malaysian Nature Society in Pahang, Noor Jehan Abu Bakar, claimed on Twitter that Tengku Hassanal and other high-ranking officers were two hours late for the Buffer Zone Ecosystem Restoration Programme – a tree-planting event in Pantai Chenor, Kemaman, Terengganu.

Her posting received backlash, with some accusing her of attempting to tarnish the good name of Tengku Hassanal and event organisers Tenaga Nasional Bhd and the Kuantan City Council.

In apologising for being late for the event, Tengku Hassanal said: “I was not feeling well that morning (just recovered from high fever, not Covid-19).”
