Kota Kinabalu: An NGO claimed Lahad Datu residents are being recruited to join the so-called Sulu Sultanate by issuing them supposed identification documents, a report said.

The Secretary of Pertubuhan Kemanusiaan Masyarakat Antarabangsa Malaysia, Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim, said their volunteers in Sabah on Monday were notified via WhatsApp about the issue, Deasoka reported.

He reportedly said pledges of allegiance to the self-styled sultanate were also taken.

Hishamuddin said it is public knowledge that the so-called sultanate was responsible for the bloody 2013 Lahad Datu intrusion.
