Paragliding mishaps are not uncommon in Sabah. In 2020, a Chinese tourist and a local paragliding pilot cheated death when their apparatus failed in Ranau, sending them free falling for 15 metres. In the same year, a paragliding accident close to the Ranau Sports Complex resulted in rib injuries for a 25-year-old man.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department issued thunderstorm warnings on Tuesday, predicting severe gusts of up to 50 kmph and rough seas with wave heights of up to 3.5 metres.
