SANDAKAN: Several coffee shops, restaurants and car wash centers had no choice but to close lately due to water supply problem in the district.
Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong said the water shortage had not only inconvenienced businesses and customers but also households and water disruption seems to have become more frequent of late.
Calvin visited the water treatment plant at Segaliud Wednesday morning and found that repair works were still going on at Pump No 3.
“On two occasions I had asked the Minister of Works at the State Assembly when can the faulty pumps be repaired.
“The answer that I got was that the faulty Pump No 3 had already been repaired.
“If that is so, how come the Sandakan residents still face water shortage until today,” he asked.
He reminded the authorities not to simply answer question like that or make sweet promises if they were not really doing anything about the problem.
“The SOP regarding Covid-19 has just been relaxed and the businesses just reopened.
“But the businessmen are facing another problem now – no water,” he pointed out, adding that as if the rising cost of living is not problem enough for the people.
He urged the Ministry concerned to take a serious view of the matter and stop making sweet promises which they cannot fulfill.
