Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said there is no recruitment exercise by followers of the so-called Sultanate of Sulu in Sabah.“We take this issue seriously,” he said in a statement, Thursday. He said while police are investigating into groups issuing “Sulu Sultaniyah Darul Islam” personal documents for a fee, their intelligence has shown that such recruitment did not occur in Sabah.

“This is the work of people trying to take advantage for their own personal gain.” He urged people to refrain from disseminating rumours or unverified information that could spark unrest.

On Wednesday, a police report was lodged by Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation Sabah Coordinator Jerry Jaimeh into an alleged recruitment exercise in Lahad Datu by supporters of the so-called Sultanate of Sulu.

He lodged the report after receiving many WhatsApp messages with images that appeared to be personal identity cards for the Sultanate of Sulu as well as a certificate of loyalty of the people of Sabah to the Sultanate of Sulu.
