Trafficking cannabis: Duo deny

Kota Kinabalu: Two men claimed trial at the High Court, here, Friday, for trafficking 301.78gm of cannabis, in Keningau last year.

Jerry Pamo, 37, and Afzanizam Noor Khalil Ahmad pleaded not guilty before Judge Wong Siong Tung to committing the crime at 10.20am on May 7, 2021 at the car park of the Bataras Superstore, Keningau.

The duo were jointly charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The charge is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act which carries the death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping not less than 15 strokes if not sentenced to death, on conviction.

Wong fixed March 13-17, next year for trial and also set Sept 19 for case management.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate’s Court, a 20-year-old man was jailed 14 days and fined RM25 or a day’s jail for being drunk and behaving indecently in public.

Mohd Syafiee Adam pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence at 8.30pm on July 24, this year at the roadside of Kg Sembulan Lama here.

He was charged under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of RM25 and 14 days jail.

The court heard from the prosecution that Syafiee was arrested by police following a police report lodged by his mother that Syafiee went berserk and blocked the traffic flow while drunk and high from glue sniffing.

Syafiee was ordered to serve the jail sentence from Friday.

In another case, a 20-year-old woman claimed trial to giving false statement to the police.

Maznira Ahau was accused of committing the offence at 11.11am on Dec 20, 2021 at the Manggatal Police Station.

She was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

The court set Aug 30 for case management and released Maznira on a bail of RM1,000 in one surety.
