More than 500  people expected in charity bike ride

LAHAD DATU: More than 500 people are expected to take part in a Merdeka Charity Bicycle Ride here on Aug 20.

The Ride is jointly organised by the Sabah Customs Senior Officers Association (PPKKS) and the Lahad Datu branch of the Royal Malaysia Customs Department (JKDM).

PPKKS president Saidin Jalaluddin said the event is also supported by a few other agencies and so far 535 people have confirmed their participation.

“It is also meant to encourage the public to join recreational activities and at the same time does charity work,” he said.

He added that the route for the Ride is 32.5 km and starts and ends at the Lahad Datu customs office.

“A few side-programmes have also been organised in conjunction with the Ride, including lucky draw,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar has been invited to officiate the function.

“The public including petty traders and hawkers are encouraged to set up stalls to play their part for charity and there will be no rental involved,” he added.

He hoped more people will join in the fun as the proceeds will go to charity.

He however reminded participants and those visiting the stalls to be mindful of the SOP as stipulated by the Health Ministry.

“Those taking part in the Ride are also reminded to put safety first as this is not a competition,” he concluded.
