TAWAU: Police have not received any report on an attempted kidnap of a pupil at SK Balung on Monday, which has since gone viral on social media.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said his men were collecting information to ascertain if the claim was true.
According to the viral message, the purported kidnap attempt happened on August 1 afternoon and the intended victim was a pre-school kid.
It added that the attempt was foiled when a teacher and a security guard realised what was happening.
“The kidnapper tried to seduce the kid by giving sweets and money. When the kid refused to follow, the kidnapper used force by pulling the kid’s hand,” the message said.
The incident was said to have been noticed by a teacher and a guard who shouted towards the direction of the kidnapper who then fled in a white Proton Saga Aeroback.
The message ended with a reminder to parents to look after their children as it is believed that there was a syndicate trying to kidnap children.
