SANDAKAN: Malaysia will become a nation of senior citizens by 2030 when 15pc of its population will be 60 and above due to a reduction in death rate and increase in life expectancy.Minister for Community Development and People’s Well-Being, Datuk Shahhelmy Yahya said in 2010, 2.2 million or 8pc of the Malaysian population was made up of senior citizens and this number increased to 3.4 million or 10.4pc in 2020.
“Hence, it is the joint responsibility of all to take positive steps to ensure the well-being of this target group.
