700 global tourism players due November

SABAH will host the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2022 in the State Capital from Nov 28 to 30, this year.Themed “Tourism Futures Reimagined”, WTC 2020 targets a total of 700 international and local delegations, including tourism ministers, senior government officials, academics and tourism industry figures from around the world.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor was briefed on this by Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Hajah Nancy Shukri who paid a courtesy call at his office in Menara Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu, on July 27.
Hajiji welcomed Sabah being chosen as the venue for WTC 2022, hoping it will boost the State’s tourism industry recovery.
According to Nancy, WTC 2022 will be implemented in a strategic collaboration between the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), Sabah Government and Sabah Tourism Board.
She said WTC is an exclusive conference organised by Malaysia in collaboration with the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) held every three years.

This year will be its sixth time held, as a follow up to the successful organisation of the fifth WTC.
Nancy said since WTC was held in Kota Kinabalu more than 12 years ago, the selection of Sabah as the host for the second time is a sign of recognition for the commitment and leadership of the State Government which has always led the development of the tourism sector so as to successfully place Sabah as a major tourism destination on the world stage.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Sr. Haji Safar Untong, Motac Deputy Secretary General (Tourism) Mohd Zamri May Zain and senior officers.
