Woman addict is jailed five years
The accused committed the offence under Section 15 (1)(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 15 of the same Act read together with Section 39C (1)(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
SANDAKAN: The Sessions Court, Wednesday, sentenced a local woman to five years jail effective the date of her arrest for injecting dangerous drugs into her body.

Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam meted out the sentence after Nurfarahin Azreen Johannes, 29, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 11.40am on May 18 at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the District Police Headquarters here.

The court heard that police officers from the division ordered her to undergo urine test and she was tested positive for having Amphetamine and Methamphetamine in her body.

She was subsequently arrested.

The accused committed the offence under Section 15 (1)(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 15 of the same Act read together with Section 39C (1)(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The accused had previous convictions under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Magistrate’s Court on 12 May 2014, 27 October 2017 and 20 March 2019.

Under Section 39(1) of the Act, she is punishable to a jail term not less than five years and not exceeding seven years and not more than three strokes of the rotan and supervision under Section 37B(1) of the Act.

The case was prosecuted by Insp Norazmeer Azmi.

Upon serving her sentence, she would also be put under police supervision for two years.
