TAWAU: The programme to fly the longest Jalur Gemilang will be held in the Tawau district to crack the record in the country, said Sabah Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy.

He said this event is part of the National Day and Malaysia Day programmes involving residents in the district.

“We plan to break the record for flying the longest Jalur Gemilang along 1.2 kilometres that was listed in the Malaysia Book of Records previously...we want to create a new record,” he told reporters after the launch of the Sabah Keluarga Malaysia Merdeka Convoy and the district-level “Fly the Jalur Gemilang” campaign, here, Saturday.

At the same time, he said both programmes with the community will be held at Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut and Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat to give exposure and awareness on the importance of appreciating the National Day and Malaysia Day.

Meanwhile, convoy leader Razif Che Hashim said the adventure will pass through 43 checkpoints involving 25 districts covering a distance of 2,150 kilometres and involving 17 vehicles and 50 participants from various government agencies.

“This convoy is expected to finish around Sabah on Aug 19, which is for 10 days,” he added.
