BEAUFORT: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is intensifying checks on retail outlets here, in Kuala Penyu and Sipitang following a new ruling, effective August 8, on the ceiling price of bottled cooking oil up to 5kg.
Beaufort KPDNHEP Chief Julie Julhani said her office will also monitor the supply situation and see to it that retailers, be they sundry shops or supermarkets, adhere to the ceiling price.

“As of Wednesday, we find enough stock of cooking oil based on the declarations of retail premises under Section 8 of the Supply Control Act 1961,” she added.
She said those retailers who failed to adhere to the ceiling price will have action taken against them under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and the Supply Control Act 1961.
She warned retailers and individuals to refrain from deviation and hoarding controlled items.
“Our officers will be at places frequented by consumers like markets, shops and supermarkets to monitor and conduct surprise checks,” she warned.
