Sipitang suspension bridge in bad shape
The collapsed bridge.
SIPITANG: A suspension bridge at Kampung Petarikan, Sindumin, is in such a bad shape that it can no longer be used, calling into question why no attention is paid maintaining these structures.

The Community Development Leader for Sindumin, Sani Miasin, said a new suspension is needed to replace it.

He personally visited the site and found that the bridge can no longer be used and swift action is needed to build a new one for the benefit of villagers including school children.

“The bridge is also necessary for farmers to work on the land on the other side of the river,” he added.

The forum, set for Feb 4-5, 2026, aims to strengthen Sabah's position as a competitive Asia Pacific hub for Business Events and cross-border collaboration.
In the absence of a bridge, villagers have no choice but to use boats to cross the river including to transport their agricultural produce.

“The collapsed bridge built in 2016 is about 300m long.”

Sani said application for a new bridge has been forwarded to the authorities and hopefully it will be approved soon.
