SANDAKAN: The East Coast of Sabah, Sandakan in particular, urgently needs a heart centre so residents do not have to go to Kota Kinabalu or even Kuala Lumpur for procedures or treatment.

Sandakan Member of Parliament, Vivian Wong, said all this while only the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Kota Kinabalu has a Cardiology Department which deals with heart ailment.

“As a result, heart-related cases like CAD have to go to the State Capital or even the National Capital and this includes patients from the East Coast,” she said, adding that the patients are burdened by transportation and board and lodging costs.
