Malaysian Family programmes unite students nationwide
PAPAR: Emphasising programmes in Sabah among students from different states will not only promote the State but also highlight the importance of unity, said Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya.

In line with Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family), he said carrying out various programmes among higher learning education students nationwide will not only give them the opportunity to experience life in Sabah but also understand each other better.

He also said that these would also give students the chance to be part of a community in other side of the country in which they (students) may be unfamiliar not the geographical characteristics in Sabah as well as the culture.

“It (programme) is a good initiative for us (Malaysians) to strengthen our unity agenda. We hope that these programmes carried out will give exposure to students to understand the various community in Sabah.

“This will immediately inspire respect among the Malaysians (to an even higher level) that fosters to the nation’s unity agenda,” he told a press conference.

He said this after officiating the Program Jalinan Integrasi Mahasiswa Negeri Sabah 2022 (2022 Sabah Student Integration Programme) at Kampung Biau, Bongawan, here, Monday.

With such programme achieving its objective, Shahelmey said that the State Government will always welcome programmes organised or established by the Federal Government through its respective Ministry.

As it was carried out under the Ministry of National Unity, he said that it was implemented through the State’s National Unity and Integration Department that was aimed to inspire nationwide respect and unity especially among students.

He also hoped that such programmes would be carried out continuously to ensure that the Malaysian Family concept will not only be emphasised but also implanted among Malaysians, especially students.

“I hope that this programme will be held annually as it can make the Malaysian Family concept very effective.

“As this was organised by the Federal Government through the Ministry of National Unity, my Ministry would surely welcome such programmes to be organised in Sabah.

“This is because it is important to ensure that unity is not only strengthened – especially among students – but also inseminated from time to time which would directly aid in our hopes to develop the country,” he added.

Shahelmey said the programme involved some 80 students from the Peninsula, Labuan and Sarawak that are currently studying in various higher learning institutes in Sabah.

It was carried out for five days and four nights (Aug 12-16) at Kampung Biau, Bongawan, involving Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) from Kg Bipisi, Seri Serbang and Hulu Tg Giuk.

The programme included students to be “adopted” into families that were part of the initiative in which various activities were carried out among the villagers and students.
