Kota Kinabalu: A man who drowned after jumping into a river in Petagas had earlier abandoned his motorcycle on a bridge before taking the leap with the police still investigating the motive for his action, according to a report.

The man had been riding his machine from the direction of Putatan towards Kepayan when he stopped on the Petagas bridge and jumped.

Members of the public who saw the 31-year-old man jump tried to rescue him but he vanished from the surface of the river.

The man's body, fully clothed, was found three hours after he jumped, the report said further.
