PENAMPANG: A man drowned after he was believed to have jumped off the Sungai Petagas Bridge, here, Saturday.

The State Fire and Rescue Department identified the man as Ismail Zainal, 31. A 1.42pm distress call prompted firefighters from Penampang and Kota Kinabalu led by Zeno Tinggalan to the scene. The man’s body was discovered at 3.51pm some 50 metres away from where he was last seen.  The body has been handed over to the police for further action. The operations ended at 4.05pm.

Also at the scene was Penampang District Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim who said investigations are being done to determine the motive behind the incident.
