Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) urged people from all walks of life to support its inaugural blood donation drive at Palm Square, Centre Point Sabah, here, this Sunday (Aug 28).
KKJA Chairman Jimmy Goh said it would be officiated by State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya at noon.
The blood donation drive will start from 10am till 5pm.
“Please come to donate blood and show your care to the community,” he said.
He said KKJA, since its inception in 1990, has organised a number of charity programmes such as helping the Sabah Kidney Association raise more than RM80,000, as well as assist old folks homes and orphanages.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has caused much misery and opened the eyes of many how fragile life can be.
“The pandemic has caused supply at the blood banks in hospitals running low. KKJA believes in giving back to society and assisting whatever way it could.
“Saving lives is more important than anything and this blood donation drive will certainly help save many who are in urgent need of blood.”
Goh said KKJA, with the cooperation of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Blood Bank, hopes to collect between 100 and 200 pints of blood on that day.
He added that more than a hundred packets of goodie bags await donors.
Organising chairman Stephanie Lee thanked the Centre Point Shopping Mall for providing the venue, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Blood Bank for the support, PicknPay, Mieku, Myxo, U.N.E Trading Sdn Bhd, Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad, Song Sin, Wah Yoon, Cha Yi and Fatt Choi Sdn Bhd for their contributions.
