Hiring illegals: Woman charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old woman was charged with two counts of hiring illegal immigrants.

Sim Yik Fang pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against her.

On the first count, Sim is accused of employing a 51-year-old Filipino who did not have any document at 12.17pm on May 17 this year at the Vernice Wellness in 1Borneo Hypermall, Jalan Sulaman, here.

On the second count, she allegedly hired two illegal immigrants, aged 22 and 38, at 12.10pm on the same and place.

The court set Oct 17 this year for case management and April 5 and 14, 2023 for hearing of the first case and June 6 and 7, 2023 for the second case.

Meanwhile, a man claimed trial to entering the State illegally saying that he has a birth certificate.

Syed Anuar told the court that he has the birth certificate and the court then set Sept 21 this year for birth certificate verification. Pending the date, Syed was ordered remanded further.

In another case, two men were sentenced to four months’ jail each for entering the State illegally.

Fandi and Boy Bolang admitted separately to entering the State without any document and they were arrested on Aug 11 this year at the city area by the police.

After completing their jail sentence, the court ordered Fandi and Boy to be referred to the Immigration Department for their biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.

The court ordered the duo to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest.
