Kota Kinabalu: Sabah football team will kick-start their campaign in this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) with the opening match against Terengganu on September 13.
They are drawn in Group C and their final game in the group stage is against Kelantan on September 17.
The quarter-finals are scheduled on September 19 and the semi-finals on September 21, while the final will be held on September 23.
Team manager Mohd Khairul Nizaem Moktar had earlier set a gold medal target for the team and is confident they have the ability to reclaim the title they captured for the first time in 2012 in Pahang.
Meanwhile, the contingent with 23 players and seven officials will leave for the national capital on September 1 and they are expected to hold two friendly matches with local teams.
Head coach Adzrien Harun said the two friendly matches to be held before their opener will be very important in their final preparation.
