LABUAN: The Labuan Port Authority (LPA) has designated an anchorage point at the Victoria Bay port for kumpits (non-conventional vessels) to conduct transhipment activities, signalling the port’s readiness for the revival of barter trade with Southern Philippines.

The notice issued by LPA also said agents should submit in advance the kumpit-related documents for approval and clearance by the marine authority. The vessels could also conduct their business alongside the wharf.

The revival of barter trade was approved last July with a permit issued by the Royal Customs Department to a local transhipment company – Nusa Aman Sdn Bhd. Several other licences would reportedly been approved by this week.
