SAR for Sandakan croc attack victim

SANDAKAN: The search and rescue (SAR) of a man in his 50s who was reported missing after he was believed to have been bitten by a crocodile in the river area near Taman Kenari, Batu 7, here, on Friday continued Saturday morning.Prior to that, the Sabah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call regarding the incident through the MERS999 system about 8.57pm, and they immediately sent seven members from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station led by Operations Officer Alan Bin Ayuh to a location 10km away.

According to witnesses, the victim who tried to cross the river using a raft was attacked by a crocodile.

The victim was said to have just returned from performing Isyak prayers at the mosque near the housing estate.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jimmy Lagung, who participated in the operation, said the SAR was carried out along the river in the area where the victim was reported to have been attacked by the crocodile, with a search area of 5km up to Batu Putih.

As of 3.30pm on Saturday, the second day of SAR, the victim had not yet been found.
