Kota Kinabalu: Most places in Sabah will experience average rainfall level during the La Nina phenomenon which is currently occurring, the Sabah Meterological Department said.Its Director Amirzudi Hashim said the State is expected to receive an average rain water amount of 100 to 350 mm for the month of September.
“For October and November, the average rainfall amount is 100 to 400mm while for December, it would be 150-450mm.
“La Nina conditions are occurring and is expected to continue until the end of 2022 with a probability of 60 per cent,” he said in a statement.
Amirzudi added that the country is also facing the Southwest Monsoon which began on May 14 and is expected to continue until mid-September.
“Typically, during the Southwest Monsoon, winds blow consistently from the southwest with lower air humidity and more stable atmospheric conditions.
“However, heavy rain with strong winds and lightning following the storm line phenomenon can occur on the west coast of Sabah.
“A storm line is a line of thunderstorms formed as a result of the concentration of wind and can last up to several hours,” he explained.
Amirzudi advised the public to obtain the latest weather updates as well as warnings through the Malaysian Meteorological Department website (www.
met.gov.my), its official social media pages or through the myCuaca mobile application.
“The public can also contact the Sabah Weather and Earthquake Operations Center and speak directly with the officers on duty at 088-413690,” he said.
