Another Mount Kinabalu climber hurt

RANAU: The rainy and windy weather in the district this past week resulted in another climber slipping and descending injured while climbing down Mount Kinabalu on Saturday.

Head of Fire and Rescue Ranau Station, PPgB Ridwan Bin Mohd Talib said the incident happened at km 8.5 of the Mount Kinabalu climbing trail at about 7.54am.

“A group of Mount Kinabalu Search and Rescue Team (Mosar) led by Operations Officer, PBK II KUP Juanie Dullah along with two Sabah Park rescuers and four Malim Gunung rushed to the scene.

“24-year-old female climber injured her left ankle.

“She was carried down to Timpohon Gate, using a stretcher. The victim was given initial treatment by the EMRS Team and sent to Ranau Hospital for further treatment,” he said.

It was the second case in September and the 48th victim thus far this year.

Ridwan reiterated his call on future climbers to do a self-health assessment before climbing Mount Kinabalu because it should be remembered that the endeavor of conquering the mountain is not an easy task.
