Kota Kinabalu: Over 30 film enthusiasts took part in a two-in-one workshop, recently, indicating growing interest among the young in the industry.

Organiser of the Script Writing and Basic Acting Workshop, Sylviana Viana Binti Saiki or better known as Vie Jimmy said, the workshop was more geared towards the creative art industry.

The Script Writing Workshop (Drama/Film/Telemovie/Short Film) was conducted by Tony Francis Gitom (TFG) FDAM, while the second day workshop, Basic Acting Workshop was conducted by Marccellus Abas or better known as Marc Abas (pic).

“Not many realise that working in the field of creative arts which is the field of acting or as a script writing is not easy. It’s actually not easy to show soulful acting that can be felt by the audience.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
“My goal is actually not only to share knowledge with the participants to deepen their grasp and understanding of the creative arts, but also as a platform for all participants to be evaluated by the teaching staff on their respective talents and opportunities to act in their future works.

“The participants expressed a sense of great satisfaction when they were able to participate and learn from directors who are considered as great and experienced in the field of creative arts,” said Vie Jimmy.

According to her, in the script writing workshop conducted by TFG, one of the tasks that all participants had to complete was to present their respective stories in the form of a script of around 100 words.

“I couldn’t deny that Tony has provided the best sharing of knowledge and ideas to all participants. It must be a different experience when the participants get knowledge from a director who has been involved in the art field for more than three decades.

“The Script Writing Workshop did not stop on that day only, Tony has asked me to hold another meeting session with all the participants through the Google Meet platform to share knowledge and ideas which will be held as soon as possible,” she said.

On the second day, the Basic Acting Workshop conducted by Marc Abas was also attended by some of the main actors in the telemovie Silence Of The 177 such as Aj Feezley, Iko, Che Chi and Christ Kent to share knowledge and experience during being a creative artist.

“Marc Abas’ approach to all participants is very different. He shares knowledge with participants based on what he practices and himself learns through experience. A practical session was also conducted for all participants.

“Each participant had the opportunity to express their taste and talent through acting in front of other participants. The purpose of the practical session is to explore the talents, emotions and intonation as well as the appreciation that exists in each person,” she said.

“I hope that through the approach of this workshop will open the minds of all participants to further dignify Sabah’s local creative arts industry in the eyes of the world in particular,” said Vie Jimmy.

She added that it is a fact that the potential of people regardless of age at this time in the development of social media such as YouTube and Tik Tok has also become one of the careers that generate income now.

This is, she said, apart from producing works in the form of dramas or telemovies for DVD printing or RTM and Private TV broadcasts.

“Those who participated in this were actually very fortunate because there is rarely a workshop that will be held in two different modes but under the same roof which is Creative Arts (Script Writing and also Acting),” she said.

Vie Jimmy said there will be two more workshops this year, namely the Unduk Ngadau/Ratu Cantik Judging Workshop, the Sound System Workshop and the Videography Processing Workshop for commercial purposes (to get video ‘intro’ and ‘content’ that can attract many people to watch it).
