When a Paper differed on formation of Malaysia

Kota Kinabalu: Not many people are aware that supporters of the Sandakan-based United Party, in a desperate attempt to stall the formation of Malaysia, put out an English version of the Chinese vernacular Borneo Times.

The short-lived paper that folded soon as the dust on Malaysia’s formation settled, briefly provided an alternate voice to the interior Dusuns, especially the Sedomon brothers, who like the Sandakan Chinese, were in favour of Sabah being allowed to exercise self-government first.
