KINABATANGAN: The active role of the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) should be improved from time to time to ensure all arising problems reach the higher authorities, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
He said those appointed by the Government for the position are individuals believed to be able to bring the voice of the people in need.
“I call on them to play their proper role. As JPKK chairmen, they are appointed by the Government to ensure that any problems are brought to the authorities and they are also the eyes and ears of the Government.
“I hope they can carry out their duties well because we do not want other parties to take their role when they should know more about their own village,” he said.
Bung, who is also Kinabatangan Member of Parliament and Lamag Assemblyman, said this when met after he chaired a meeting with the JPKK chairmen in Lamag state constituency at the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) Office in Bukit Garam, near here, recently.
Also present were Lamag Community Development Leader Abu Bakar Gapar and Kinabatangan Parliamentary Chief Communications Officer Amri Andimas.
Bung also hopes that the JPKK chairmen will go down to the ground to see for themselves the condition of the community in their respective areas.
“They should take the initiative to do this on the basis and capacity as chairman where they should find out, not just wait for people to come home (but) need to go to the ground.
“If possible, get to know the population in their village such as how many young people, how many people aged 80 years and above, how many single mothers and those ill who should be helped and taken good care.
“This is because we as the Government do not necessarily know everything. That’s why we appointed JPKK chairmen as a representative to the Government so the villagers can report to them,” he said.
Bung said the problems faced by the people would be solved easily when the JPKKs act according to the correct method.
He said the community needs to know and understand the correct channel for their complaints in order to get the best solution in the shortest time possible, instead of choosing a shortcut by raising village issues or problems in the social media.
“We have our ways and methods of working. JPKKs who have problems must contact their respective elected representatives so that they can follow up on people’s problems up to the next stage,” added Bung.
