Bugaya seat is still vacant
Manis Muka, 65, of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), died from kidney ailment without being officially sworn-in after the 16th Sabah Election held on September 26, 2020.  
Kota Kinabalu: The Bugaya state seat is still vacant following the death of its elected representative Manis Muka Mohd Darah on Nov. 17, 2020.

When asked, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said it is the prerogative of the Election Commission (EC) on when to hold a by-election for the constituency.

The emergency proclamation on the Bugaya state constituency in Semporna was done on Dec. 16, 2020, following the Covid-19 pandemic. This was followed by the proclamation of a localised emergency which is still on until today.
