SHAH ALAM: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has no doubt that PAS will remain in the coalition.

He said this in response to question marks raised over PAS’ position, especially after an ultimatum from Umno for the Islamic party to choose between them and PN.

“God willing, we will remain steadfast,” he said when asked if PAS would remain with the coalition. He was speaking to reporters after attending meetings held by Bersatu and other PN component parties here.

This is not the first time Muhyiddin has said PAS will remain with PN. On Sept 27, he declared that PAS would stick with the coalition.

On Tuesday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said PAS had been given a deadline to decide whether it wanted to cooperate with the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) or PN in the next general election.

Zahid also set several conditions for PAS if it wanted to work with Umno, including severing ties with PN.

Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man this evening reiterated that Muslim unity was their main agenda.

“So I think there is no issue. Not just in the context of the general election, but beyond that.

“In politics, the fundamentals are about reducing the number of enemies and increasing the number of allies,” he said.

PAS will meet this Saturday to decide once and for all if it will stick with Bersatu in PN or work with Umno-BN in GE15.

Separately, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan said PN would defend its seats in the impending general election and that Muhyiddin would announce the seat allocations.

“We shall wait for the official announcement,” he told reporters outside the party’s headquarters after attending the meeting between Bersatu and its PN partners.
