CHIEF Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has granted a special allocation of RM500,000 to Beaufort Chinese Temple (Guan Yin Temple) to repair the embankment at Padas River along the perimeter of the temple’s premises.

The temple’s Chairman Datuk Seri Chong Nyuk Yong received the allocation from Special Officer to the Chief Minister (Sabah Tiong Hua Affairs) Lo Su Fui, in the presence of Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam in Beaufort recently.

Chong said the special allocation was the largest financial aid the temple has ever received from the State Government.

“We are grateful to the Chief Minister for the allocation. The approval of the funds reflects Hajiji’s commitment to support the development and needs of the people from all racial and cultural backgrounds,” he said.

He also thanked Lo and Ruslan for their assistance in securing the special allocation.

The Beaufort Chinese Temple was established some 80 years ago. The construction of a new embankment is necessary to mitigate flooding in the temple’s compound, which can be up to five feet deep when the Padas River water level rises.

Work had commenced on the embankment in July this year and the project was completed recently.

Meanwhile, Lo thanked Hajiji for the allocation for Beaufort Chinese Temple.

“The Chief Minister never considers the race, culture, religion or political affiliation of the applicants. His main concern is always whether the funds will truly serve the needs of the applicants,” he said.

He disclosed that Hajiji has disbursed more than RM12 million to address the needs of the Chinese communities through him to date.

“I hope Sabahans will continue to support an open-minded and moderate leader like our Chief Minister,” he said.
