Six men and woman held over brawl in Lahad Datu
All of the suspects would be remanded until Oct 13 for further investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
LAHAD DATU: Six men and a woman have been arrested in connection with a brawl at the night market in Jalan Mawar, here, last Saturday.

A two-minute footage of the incident, where chairs and helmets were used, went viral on social media.

District Police Chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad said the 9pm incident was believed to have started following an argument between a woman and a group of men.

He said acting on information, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lahad Datu police headquarters conducted an investigation and launched “Op Cantas” to identify the suspects involved in the incident.

“As a result, six men and a woman aged 19 to 28 were arrested from Kampung Unta road at 11.40am on Monday to assist in the investigation. “Police also seized a grey helmet,” he said, adding the motive of the brawl was to seek revenge following an argument between lovers.

“One of the male suspects had a disagreement with his girlfriend. Following that, three men, who were the woman’s cousins, fought with the boyfriend.

“The boyfriend later sought the help of his brother and a friend,” he said, adding that all of the suspects would be remanded until Oct 13 for further investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
