Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Forestry Development Authority (Safoda) clarified that some 35,000 hectares were given for village and agriculture, which became Kampung Niatang, in 1998.
Safoda General Manager Bahrul Chuprat said this was formalised in a letter with then village representative, KK Mopuas Mokilong.
“Yet his (Mopuas) offspring and other residents claim to be met with bulldozers without an eviction notice.
“There has been no sale of land to Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS). It is gazetted by the State Government and cannot be simply taken by any party,” he said.
He was referring to a Daily Express report on Wednesday regarding a human rights group seeking the State Government’s intervention on the sale of Safoda land in Pitas, which has become “Kampung Niantang”, to the Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS).
A group of villagers, accompanied by Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) Secretary General Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim staged a demonstration outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Office near Jalan UMS on Tuesday regarding the matter.
