Kota Kinabalu: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has kicked off its election machinery for two parliamentary constituencies amid ongoing efforts by the coalition to resolve seat allocations among its five parties for the coming 15th General ElectionSAPP launched its election operation centre for the Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar constituencies at its headquarters in Likas on Tuesday (Oct 11). Besides putting up SAPP flags, the party also put up GRS flags at its headquarters.
“Kota Kinabalu is where the SAPP headquarters has been based since 1994, and our past candidate for the Sepanggar constituency was the highest-voted MP,” said election operation centre coordinator Stephan Gaimin in a statement Wednesday.
Gaimin was referring to Datuk Eric Majimbun who won the seat in the 2008 general election after defeating closest contender Edward Ewol Mujie of DAP with a majority of 11,461 votes.
“We are ever ready for these constituencies. Thus, the election machinery is activated immediately right after it was announced that the Parliament was dissolved,” he added.
SAPP Vice-President Gee Tien Siong was named the campaign manager for the Kota Kinabalu constituency for the GE15, while the election machinery for Sepanggar constituency will be coordinated by John Stephen and Rasni Kassim.
SAPP Deputy President Datuk Edward Dagul said he was satisfied with the progress of preparations.
He added that this will ensure the campaigning process could be carried out smoothly.
SAPP President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee had previously said that the party wished to contest the Papar, Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Tawau seats besides Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar.
He said, however, SAPP will respect the views and position of other GRS parties in arriving at the final seat allocation by the GRS leadership.
Other parties in GRS are the Sabah chapter of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Sabah Star, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno).
