Ex-Labuan MP hid links to firm vying for port contract, court hears
Warisan’s Rozman Isli is accused of abusing his position as Labuan Port Authority’s deputy manager to secure a contract for Labuan Liberty Port Management Sdn Bhd.
PETALING JAYA: The sessions court here was told that former Labuan MP Rozman Isli did not disclose his family members’ interest in a company bidding for port management work.

Labuan Liberty Port Management Sdn Bhd’s security manager Kasli Sulaiman Darja said he had attended meetings with several Labuan Port Authority’s representatives, including Rozman, on Dec 11, 2017 and Dec 12, 2019 at two different hotels.

“He did not disclose (during the meetings) that his father and brother were Labuan Liberty’s shareholders,” said Kasli.

He said Rozman’s father, Isli Siput @ Ali, and his brother, Tony Noolan, were shareholders in Labuan Liberty, but they were never involved in the company’s day-to-day activities.

Rozman, who is from Warisan, is standing trial on one count of abuse of power.

He is accused of using his position as Labuan Port Authority’s deputy manager to secure the contract for Labuan Liberty.

Cross-examined by Rozman’s lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, Kasli said that Labuan Port Authority’s board of directors did not make any decision on which company to appoint as port manager at the 2017 meeting.

The port authority, however, allowed Labuan Liberty to rent premises from which it could operate its business on a temporary basis pending a decision, he said.

Apart from Kasli, former Labuan Liberty general manager Abd Gani Paijan also testified today.

Gani told the court that he attended the 2019 meeting with Labuan Liberty, at which the company again failed to secure the port management contract.

Rafique then asked if the witness was aware that an entity named LP Multi Terminal Sdn Bhd was ultimately awarded the port management contract.

“I’m not sure what their name is,” Gani replied.
