Pupil crushed to death by goalpost
Zaidi said police investigations showed no foul play, adding the case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR). 
Kota Kinabalu: A Primary Five pupil was crushed to death by a falling goalpost during the SK Lok Yuk sports day held at the football field at Menggatal town.

The 11-year-old was confirmed to have died at the Likas Hospital following the 12.20pm incident, on Thursday.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said a commotion of students surrounded the body following the tragic freak incident.

“The boy’s father, who was standing at the sidelines, immediately called 999 and the victim was rushed to the Likas Hospital in an ambulance,” he said.

He said police investigations showed no foul play, adding the case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR). The incident had gone viral on social media after a video of paramedics and policemen attending to the victim was posted online.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a drunk man who took a swing at a woman’s right ear in the city on Tuesday.

Zaidi said a video recording of the 9pm incident at a traffic light near a shopping centre went viral.

“The suspect ended up getting into a brawl with the woman’s boyfriend. The couple were going home from work at a restaurant in the mall,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
