MORE than 289,000 pupils from 1,075 primary schools in Sabah benefited from the School Social Assistance (BSS) initiative of the State Government.

Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya said the burden of parents or guardians is lightened to some extent.

“The 1,075 primary schools involved more than 289,000 pupils regardless of whether they are B40 or M40 status. They were all eligible,” he said when met after handing over BSS to eight primary schools in Putatan at SK Pekan Putatan.

Among the help provided were school uniforms, school shoes, exercise books and stationery.

Shahelmey said he hoped the distribution of BSS would be completed by the end of this year.

“We are asking for cooperation from some schools that may not have updated their pupils’ data to do so in the D-BaSS system for the purpose of distributing BSS.

“This is so that no pupils will miss out on BBS,” he said.
