Election Commission urged to make voters bring their birth certs
Chua said the call, if it was to be executed by EC at all, will not be a total solution to ensure that the current system in electing the government by the people is clear of dubious voters.
Kota Kinabalu: The Election Commission (EC) should make it a condition for voters to bring their birth certificates with the identity card on polling day.

Penampang Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Chairman Kenny Chua said it is to prevent dubious voters from casting votes in the general election in Sabah.

“The issue about the unusual spike of new voters in Sabah is something that the people are very worried about.

“One way we think we can stop dubious voters from voting is by asking the EC to set a condition for voters to bring along their birth certificate as supporting document. Apparently, an identity card seems not enough,” he said in a statement, Monday.

However, Chua said the call, if it was to be executed by EC at all, will not be a total solution to ensure that the current system in electing the government by the people is clear of dubious voters.

He added that there have been many disturbing reports about the issuance of documents to illegal immigrants highlighted by the media.

“What we can do at least is to stop these individuals from voting and we hope the EC can consider,” he said.
