PETALING JAYA: The prisons department has debunked a rumour that incarcerated Najib Razak had given an interview following footage of the former prime minister appearing on RTM yesterday.
The video was aired on TV1 during a feature on the history and background of Pekan, Pahang.
“No video shooting involving Najib was done by any media agency at the prisons premises,” said the prisons department in a statement.
Upon checking, it said, the video was pre-recorded by the television station for episode 57 of the Kembara Keluarga Malaysia programme before Najib began serving his prison sentence.
It also said the public was advised not to spread misinformation and added that legal action could be taken against irresponsible individuals who shared false news.
Najib started serving his 12-year prison sentence on Aug 23, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence for the SRC International case.
He had been found guilty of seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million of funds belonging to SRC International
