Kota Kinabalu: Talk is abuzz that former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman (pic) is contemplating contesting in his Libaran stronghold in the Nov. 19 general election.

Musa’s camp is keeping mum but political watchers believe the body language of Barisan Nasional  deputy chairman Datuk Yakub Khan, who smiled when asked, was a positive indication.

“Just ask Tan Sri Musa,” was his reply. Other BN leaders also declined to comment or said they did not have information on the matter. The rumours of Musa staging a political comeback have been swirling for some time but intensified following BN Chairman and Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s proposal to appoint a Deputy Prime Minister from Sabah if the coalition wins.

The Libaran parliamentary seat houses the Sungai Sibuga State constituency, where Musa was incumbent for six terms.  However, Sabah Umno Treasurer Datuk Suhaimi Nasir is also eyeing the seat. Suhaimi is a nominated assemblyman as well as Libaran division chief.

Musa did not contest in the 2020 state election but helped in the campaigning. He opted to keep a low profile after he was forced to give up the CM post after 48 hours when Barisan Nasional coalition partner Upko crossed over to align with Warisan-Plus to help it form the new State Government.
