Anwar sends legal notice to ex-PKR member over Chin Peng claims
A grab from the TikTok video clip that Anwar Ibrahim claims has damaged his reputation.
PETALING JAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has issued a letter of demand (LOD) to a former party member over a TikTok video which he says contains numerous defamatory statements against him.

In the letter sighted by FMT, he said Faizal Effendi Hasim had made serious allegations against him through his TikTok account @mr_ari11.

He had promised earlier that a day after being sworn in as the prime minister, he would send a five-man delegation to Thailand to negotiate the return of Chin Peng (when he was still alive) to Malaysia; and

Faizal’s claim that if he brought Chin Peng back to Malaysia, the people of Sungai Manik, Perak, would be the first to rise against him to defend Malaysians.

Anwar said Faizal’s allegations in the video that went viral were false, libellous and defamatory.

He said the claims meant or implied, among others, that he had abused his powers as an MP, was deceitful and a traitor, and not a good Muslim and a hypocrite.

“You have produced the video clip with a plan to destroy my character, especially during this time when the next general election is coming up. It has caused serious damage,” the LOD sent by his lawyer, SN Nair, said.

It gave Faizal seven days to withdraw the allegations, make an unconditional apology in a media of Anwar’s choice, and a written assurance that he would not repeat the allegations in any form, failing which legal proceedings against him would begin.
