SANDAKAN: The construction of Surau As-Sakinah will benefit 1,000 Muslims in Taman Airport, Batu 7, here, said Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Libaran parliamentary, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir
He said the surau project worth RM355,000 will be implemented once the allocation is channelled to the Sandakan Municipal Council.
He hoped the project would be able to further develop Islamic teachings in Taman Airport from time to time.
“In the meantime, I also call on the chairman and committee members of Surau As-Sakinah to request for a bigger area from the housing developer so that the upgrade of the Surau to a mosque can be carried out in line with a rising population in the future,” Suhaimi said.
Suhaimi, who is also Libaran Umno Division head, said this during the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Surau As-Sakinah at Taman Airport on Sunday.
Also present was Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister cum Sungai Sibuga assemblyman Datuk Hamsan Awang Supain.
Suhaimi also said he is ready to contribute to the facilities of Surau As-Sakinah such as providing carpets and loudspeakers, among others.
In addition to the construction of the surau, he said various public facilities in Libaran would be improved, especially the Taman Fajar public market which is the trading place for Bumiputera traders.
Meanwhile, the Muslim residents of Taman Airport, represented by the Chairman of the As-Sakinah Surau Sponsorship Committee, Mohd Hafiz Zuraimy Damsah, hoped that the construction of the surau in Taman Airport can be realised this year after applying for the third time.
“If this surau is constructed, Taman Airport residents will no longer go to the Surau in PPR Taman, Taman Fajar Mosque or the military camp,” he said.
