Kota Kinabalu: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat’s (KDM) Kota Kinabalu candidate Datuk Seri Winston Liaw lodged a police report on Wednesday after being insulted and pushed by an individual during a walkabout in Hilltop, here.

The incident on Tuesday was caught on camera showing the man saying in Chinese, “I’m broke and now and the income tax is after me! What can you do?” before hurling obscene words towards Winston.

Winston said he tried to defuse the situation by moving on to a different table but the man continued yelling “I am a rocket!” in support for DAP.

“To me, it is nothing personal, but the video went viral and involved KDM. People will start to question why this candidate is so soft to be taking such insults.

“The report is also to create awareness among the public and other candidates to maintain a peaceful election and campaign period. “I don’t know this guy’s motive, if it’s his personal feelings or under the instruction of others. I understand a bad economy causes depression.

“Besides, I am a political newcomer, shouldn’t he be blaming the previous government or political party he claims to be in support of instead of me” Winston said.

He said he would be bringing a larger campaign team the next time round as a precautionary measure.

“I’m leaving the case to the police. They have taken our statements and the matter will be brought to Bukit Aman,” he added.
