Women urged to tap the business potential

SABAH Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Datuk Juliah Salag encouraged more women to become entrepreneurs.She said the field of entrepreneurship is now a catalyst for the economic development of developed and developing countries.

“The entrepreneurship sector is seen to be growing, especially with the involvement of women, to the point that some have started businesses without the help of other parties.
“We are very happy with this effort and positive development, and we wish that more women enter the field.

“For this purpose, the State Government has provided a large allocation in the 2022 Budget, amounting to RM17.61 million for the implementation of women’s development programmes through the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) and Yayasan Usaha Maju (Yum).

“The provision targets service to housewives, single mothers, small female traders and various strata of society in the focused economic sector,” she said when officiating the closing ceremony of the 2022 JHEWAnita Entrepreneurship Programme in Kota Kinabalu on Nov 10.

Juliah, who is President of Pertubuhan Muafakat Titipan Amal Isteri Wakil Rakyat, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (Mutiara GRS) also presented course certificates and kits to representatives of participants in the six skills courses organised by Jhewa.

Throughout 2022, Jhewa held 22 courses involving 508 women such as the Marinated Food Preservation Course, Spa Oil Making Course, Gift Making Course and Bakery Skills Course.

Also present were, Jhewa Director Haslina Ismail, third Vice President and Chairman of the MUTIARA GRS Welfare Bureau, Datin Seri Linda Ewit, Assistant District Officer Malim Supre and District Council Executive Officer representative Siti Arnizah Rumsani.
