Missing man found drowned

LAHAD DATU: A senior citizen in his 80s reported missing on Saturday was found dead, believed to have drowned while crossing the river to go to the plantation.

District Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Sumsoa Rashid said, the victim was found stuck under a fallen palm oil tree in the river, about a kilometre from the

location where he was reported to have fallen.

“We activated the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation on Saturday upon receiving a distress call at 4.43pm. The SAR operation was later suspended at 6.20pm and continued at 7am.

“The SAR was carried out with three members boarding a boat from the sea to search along the river while other members together with Pasukan Bomba Sukarela and members of public searching around the river bank areas,” he said.

Sumsoa said the victim was found by member of public at 9.30am. The victim was later handed over to the police for further action.

He added that the operation was called off at 12.30pm.
