Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man will know on Dec 6 this year whether he has a case to answer on a charge of causing grievous hurt to another man.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set the date for Reezid Kasmin for ruling at the end of prosecution case, Monday.
Reezid is accused of assaulting Mohd Bovi Wong, 26, by using a knife and a sword at 11pm on Jan 6, 2020 in front of the Kedai Mike Café in Tuaran.
He allegedly committed the offence together with another accused Abdul Razif Juani who admitted to the charge and was sentenced accordingly, and also together with an accomplice still at large.
The offence, under Section 326/34 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, and liability to a fine, on conviction. The prosecution had called 15 witnesses during the hearing.
Counsel Erveana Ansari Ali defended Reezid.
Meanwhile, a man and woman who repeatedly took drugs, were jailed five and six years, respectively.
Riyaana Bakri pleaded guilty to the charge against her and was sentenced to five years’ jail. She was arrested on Sept 7, 2021 after testing positive for drugs at the Beaufort police station.
Meanwhile, Bisnim @ Ambrose Batak was sentenced to six years’ jail after he was found taking drugs after testing positive for drugs on Sept 7 this year. The duo had several convictions for taking drugs.
The offence, under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered Riyaana and Bisnim to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.
After completing their sentence, the duo was ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
