PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man in his 30s for allegedly threatening to kill the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

According to Harian Metro, the man posted a photo of the King on Instagram with a threatening caption.

A screenshot of the post had gone viral on social media, with many netizens urging authorities to take stern action against the account owner.

It is understood that police detained the suspect in Kajang last night. Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed will issue a press statement after the man has been remanded.

In a statement on Monday, inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police had discovered social media posts that touched on racial and religious sensitivities following the elections on Saturday.

He reminded social media users to refrain from misusing such platforms to circulate inflammatory content.

Stern action will be taken against those who threaten security and public order, including under the Sedition Act, Acryl Sani said.
